Quit tip – Tell your friends

Tell your friends, family, and people you work with that you’re trying to quit smoking. Having the encouragement and support of people around you could make the difference. If you have friends or family who are smokers, ask them not to smoke around you. If they are your real friends, they will respect your wish to be smokefree.

You might also want to join a support group with other people trying to quit or a yarning group with other people in the same situation as you. Visit your local health service, see your doctor or look up your local Aboriginal health service.

Talking to a counsellor can help – behavioral therapy is a type of counseling that helps you identify and stick to quit-smoking strategies.
